Niramaya Yogam :: Manas-Yog Peeth

Shatkarma is derived from the Sanskrit words "shat" (six) and "karma" (action or technique). These six practices remove toxins, improve bodily functions, and prepare the body for higher yoga practices like pranayama and meditation.

The Six Shatkarma Practices

1. Neti (Nasal Cleansing): Cleanses nasal passages using saline solution, improving respiratory function, relieving sinus congestion, and promoting mental clarity.

2. Dhauti (Cleansing Techniques): Purifies the digestive system and gastrointestinal tract.

3. Nauli (Abdominal Massage): Involves rotating abdominal muscles to stimulate digestion, enhance intestinal movement, and detoxify abdominal organs.

4. Basti (Colonic Irrigation): Uses warm water or herbal decoctions to cleanse the colon, improve bowel function, and balance Vata dosha.

5. Kapalbhati (Skull Shining Breath): A dynamic breathing technique that clears respiratory passages, increases oxygenation, and energizes the mind.

6. Trataka (Candle Gazing): A meditation practice focusing on a fixed point to improve concentration, visual perception, and mental clarity.

Naturopathy

Naturopathy is a holistic approach to healthcare that emphasizes the body's innate ability to heal itself through natural and non-invasive therapies. It is based on the principles of vitalism, holistic health, and the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit. Naturopathic medicine incorporates a wide range of natural therapies, lifestyle modifications, and preventive measures to promote overall health and well-being.

Principles of Naturopathy

The Healing Power of Nature (Vis Medicatrix Naturae):

Naturopathy recognizes the body's inherent ability to heal itself and seeks to support and enhance this natural healing process using natural therapies and interventions.

Identify and Treat the Root Cause (Tolle Causam):

Naturopathic practitioners aim to identify and address the underlying causes of illness and imbalance, rather than simply treating symptoms. This approach focuses on addressing the root cause of disease to promote long-term health and wellness.

First, Do No Harm (Primum Non Nocere):

Naturopathic interventions prioritize the use of safe, non-invasive, and gentle therapies that minimize the risk of adverse effects and avoid causing harm to the patient.

Treat the Whole Person (Tolle Totum):

Naturopathy considers the individual as a whole, taking into account the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of health. Treatment plans are personalized and address the unique needs and circumstances of each individual.

Doctor as Teacher (Docere):

Naturopathic practitioners serve as educators and guides, empowering patients to take an active role in their health and well-being. They provide education, guidance, and support to help patients make informed decisions about their health.
